To be Black AND Woke sometimes means you have to realize that you aren’t black at all.
There are no white people. There are no black people. That’s scientifically impossible. We are all different shades of brown. The presence of melanin is the primary factor in determining an individual’s skin tone. Albinism is a congenital disorder which is the partial or complete absence of the enzyme that creates melanin. Anyone with this recessive gene is susceptible to albinism.
There is only one race, the human race. What about the Caucasoid, Mongoloid, Negroid, American Indian, and Malayan races? Is there any validity to them? Johann Friedrich Blumenbach, the physician and anthropologist who created the five races after doing extensive crania research (human skulls) in various regions of the earth, concluded that ‘individual Africans differ as much, or even more, from other individual Africans as Europeans differ from Europeans’. In other words, he found that within each race, he could’ve created a dozen more races due to the myriad of variances within each of the five original groupings.
Johann Friedrich Blumenbach also said “Finally, I am of opinion that after all these numerous instances I have brought together of negroes of capacity, it would not be difficult to mention entire well-known provinces of Europe, from out of which you would not easily expect to obtain off-hand such good authors, poets, philosophers, and correspondents of the Paris Academy; and on the other hand, there is no so-called savage nation known under the sun which has so much distinguished itself by such examples of perfectibility and original capacity for scientific culture, and thereby attached itself so closely to the most civilized nations of the earth, as the Negro.” In other words, he founded Negroids were not inferior.
Modern day biologist, Jonathan Marks, also stated, “By the 1970s, it had become clear that (1) most human differences were cultural; (2) what was not cultural was principally polymorphic – that is to say, found in diverse groups of people at different frequencies; (3) what was not cultural or polymorphic was principally clinal – that is to say, gradually variable over geography; and (4) what was left – the component of human diversity that was not cultural, polymorphic, or clinal – was very small. A consensus consequently developed among anthropologists and geneticists that race as the previous generation had known it – as largely discrete, geographically distinct, gene pools – did not exist.” In other words, biologists have confirmed that there is only one race, the human race.
So what does it mean to be black or white and why do “these” races even exist? The “black” and “white” races as we know them today are arbitrary classifications, i.e. labels, and only exist to psychologically and socioeconomically oppress, disenfranchise, and enslave. Once you and others begin thinking as a color instead of an individual, they’ve won. The only thing scientific about racism is scientific racism.
“If it may be said of the slavery era that the white man took the world and gave the Negro Jesus, then it may be said of the Reconstruction era that the southern aristocracy took the world and gave the poor white man Jim Crow. And when his wrinkled stomach cried out for the food that his empty pockets could not provide, he ate Jim Crow, a psychological bird that told him that no matter how bad off he was, at least he was a white man, better than the black man. And when his undernourished children cried out for the necessities that his low wages could not provide, he showed them the Jim Crow signs on the buses, in the stores, on the streets, and in the public buildings. His children, too, learned to feed upon Jim Crow, their last outpost of psychological oblivion.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
MLK Jr. understood it.
“Genetic evidence has undermined the idea of racial divisions of the human species and rendered race obsolete as a biological system of classification. Race therefore should no longer be considered as an objective category e.g. the Caucasian race…Rather than using race to generalize about national or geographic origin…it is better to be specific: South Korean, of Polish descent. Though race is no longer considered a viable scientific categorization of humans…There are times when it is still accurate to talk about race in society. Though race has lost its biological basis, the sociological consequences of historical racial categories persist. For example, it may be appropriate to invoke race to discuss social or historical events shaped by racial categorizations, as slavery, segregation, integration, discrimination, equal employment policy. Often in these cases, the adjective “racial” is more appropriate than the noun “race.”” – Dictionary.com
Dictionary.com get its. I didn’t know they were this woke!
“We’ve been floating this country on credit for centuries. We’re done watching and waiting while this INVENTION CALLED WHITENESS uses and abuses us. Burying black people out of sight and out of mind while extracting our culture, our dollars, our entertainment like oil – black gold, ghettoizing and demeaning our creations then stealing them, gentrifying our genius and then trying us on like costumes before discarding our bodies like rinds of strange fruit. The thing is though… the thing is that just because we’re magic doesn’t mean we’re not real.” – Jesse Williams
Jesse Williams is here for it.
Here are some more labels – “fat”, “midget”, and “mentally retarded”. The people objected and replaced those labels with “curvy”, “average-sized woman, “everyday woman”, “little person”, and “special”. A label that makes someone feel separated from and less than the average person has no positive purpose. However, society convinced the people that black and white weren’t labels at all but instead races used for descriptive purposes only. LIES. Ok sooo… 1) No one is literally black and mankind originated in Africa. 2) Describing someone as brown-skinned is completely different then assigning them to a socially constructed race created to divide and oppress. 3) That’s why we have ethnicities. 4) Lastly, how is it that black men make up 7% of the US population but 40% of the prison population? Institutionalized racism. That’s how.
You ever notice the definitions of “black” in the dictionary are all negative? I’m just going to leave this one right here.
Here comes the tricky part. On one hand, I’m black and I’m proud. On the flip side, if you continue to perpetuate labeling people as black or white then you inadvertently support racism, division, and oppression because of all the labels in America, it seems like only “black” became systematized and institutionalized for the purpose of subjugation. Yes, we still have to check that box on a job application and government form because this country’s history is rooted in racism and people, systems, and institutions are racist to this day but even though we are plugged into the matrix it doesn’t mean we have to be of the matrix. “Races” had me so brainwashed that at one point I thought I wasn’t “black enough” to rock my own natural hair.
This is not about blaming the media or drawing from personal experiences. Racism has been around for 1000s of years before there was ever an internet connection. It’s about hate and its ability to become institutionalized through the persistent use and cultural normalization of racist and divisive labels. Going forward, I believe the only way to end racism is to end races. This will probably be the craziest thing you read on the internet today. If you have better ideas please share then in the comments section below because we’re in this together!
In the meantime, please watch with an open mind because ‘I am not black and you are not white’.
